Gary Liguori is a Fellow of the American
College of Sports Medicine and the Dean of College of Health Sciences at the
University of Rhode Island.
Gary received his PhD in Wellness from the North
Dakota State University in 2005, studying the effects of email prompts on
physical activity. Previous faculty positions include Associate Professor at
North Dakota State, Instructor at Youngstown State University and Instructor at
the University of Wyoming.
Dr. Liguori has served as the Chair of the American
College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Health Fitness Specialist certification
committee, and is the Senior Editor of the 1st edition of ACSM’s Resource
Manual for the Health Fitness Specialist, the 5th edition of ACSM's
Health-Related Physical Fitness Assessment and the 11th edition of ACSM’s
Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription.
Dr. Liguori has also
published a 2nd edition text (Questions & Answers: A Guide to Fitness and
Wellness) with McGraw-Hill.
Dr. Liguori's current research is focused on
sedentary behavior as a compensatory mechanism in various populations. Dr.
Liguori also works with U.S. NHANES data to consider patterns of change in
metabolic syndrome, including cross-cultural comparisons.
ACSM’s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription is the lead title in the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) book portfolio. The first edition of Guidelines was published in 1975, and it maintains its status as the most widely circulated set of guidelines for exercise professionals. Guidelines is published by ACSM’s and is updated every four to six years by leading experts in the field to ensure the content is up-to-date and meeting the needs of the dedicated individuals within the exercise science environment. This lecture will present all the changes that readers can expect to see in the new edition.
